August 6 – The Unum Group subsidiary Starmount Life Insurance Company, Inc. (”Starmount”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The Unum Group data breach resulted in the names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, medical information, health insurance claim information and policy information of certain individuals being compromised.
According to a notice posted on their website, Unum Group reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On June 1, 2023, Unum identified suspicious activity within its MOVEit Transfer application. The company secured its system and then launched an investigation into the incident. The investigation confirmed that between May 31, 2023 and June 1, 2023, an unauthorized party exploited the MOVEit vulnerability, copying data from its MOVEit server. It was later determined that some of the data that was accessible to the unauthorized party consisted of confidential information belonging to Unum customers. On August 3, 2023, Unum Group sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
