December 16 – The data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the UW Medicine data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent cyber security attack at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The UW Medicine data breach resulted in the patient information being compromised.
According to the data breach letter, UW Medicine reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent cyber security attack at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The organizations work together to advance cancer research through the Fred Hutch/UW Medicine/Seattle Children’s Cancer Consortium. UW Medicine noted that the Fred Hutch data breach may have affected the confidential information of some UW Medicine patients and this includes patients who did not receive care through Fred Hutch. The UW Medicine data breach letter also confirmed previous reports that the hackers responsible for the Fred Hutch data breach also sent letters to patients demanding they pay a ransom. UW Medicine advised patients not to pay the demanded ransom and delete the message. UW Medicine is conducting an investigation that is still ongoing.
