August 1 – The VALIC Retirement Services Company (“VRSCO,” “VALIC”) data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information, LLC. The VALIC Retirement Services Company data breach resulted in the names, Social Security numbers, policy or account numbers, dates of birth and addresses of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 798,000 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, VALIC Retirement Services Company reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information, LLC. Corebridge Financial, Inc. VRSCO’s parent company relies on services provided by PBI, which provides research services for insurance companies, pension funds, and other organizations, including Corebridge. PBI uses the MOVEit file-transfer software, created by Progress Software.
On May 31, 2023, Progress Software announced that the MOVEit software contained a critical vulnerability. Evidently, hackers were able to exploit this vulnerability and access the MOVEit server used by PBI. VRSCO provided PBI with confidential information related to its clients so, VRSCO client data was among the information that was compromised. According to PBI, the compromised files were accessible to an unauthorized party between May 29, 2023 and May 30, 2023. On July 27, 2023, VALIC Retirement Services Company sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
