February 16 – The data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C. are investigating the Virginia Farm Bureau data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. It is believed to have impacted as many as 261,187 individuals. The Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance data breach resulted in the below information of certain individuals being compromised:

  • names,
  • driver’s license numbers,
  • state identification numbers,
  • Social Security numbers,
  • and financial account information

What Happened?

According to the Attorney General of Maine, the Virginia Farm Bureau data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On October 11, 2022, the company was contacted by the Department of Homeland Security’s Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency (“CISA”) regarding a tip they received that certain VFB systems had been compromised. This prompted the Virginia Farm Bureau to secure their system and launch an investigation. It was confirmed that on October 16, 2022, some of VFB’s IT network was encrypted. An unauthorized party was able to access portions of its IT network between October 6, 2022 and October 16, 2022, and that the unauthorized party may have downloaded confidential consumer data. On February 15, 2024, Virginia Farm Bureau sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
