What Happened As A Result Of The Washington State University Data Breach?

According to a notice posted on their website, Washington State University reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. Several third-party vendors recently notified WSU of a cybersecurity incident that may have exposed personally identifiable information of students and employees. The vendors were National Student Clearinghouse (“NSC”) and the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (“TIAA”). NSC provides WSU with enrollment and degree verification services as well as student loan reporting requirements to WSC. TIAA provides financial services to WSU employees. TIAA does not use the MOVEit file transfer software, but one of their vendors, Pension Benefit Information, LLC, uses it. Students affected by the National Student Clearinghouse data breach will be contacted by NSC.
