A Winning Ambition

Life wasn’t easy when Emily Rae Brewster was growing up in South Chicago. In an environment full of gun violence and poverty, many people would have focused on mere survival. Fortunately, Brewster’s father wanted better for her. He encouraged her to break the cycle of poverty and to strive to make the world, and the community, a better place.

Her father’s encouragement fueled Brewster’s ambition. She worked hard to seize the opportunities that would give her the chance to fulfill those dreams. Starting in childhood, Brewster studied abroad in places as far away as the United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia. She studied nearly half a dozen different languages and cultures.

Today, Brewster is a student at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Law. The 24-year-old is well on her way to earning her Juris Doctor degree. Once she does, the plans to use her legal education and the knowledge she has gained while studying across the world to work as a social advocate in her community.
