September 28 – The West Virginia University Health System data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The WVU Medicine data breach resulted in the names, dates of service, and reasons and descriptions of service of certain individuals being compromised.
According to a notice posted on their website, WVU Medicine reported a data breach after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The incident involved a data breach at Nuance Communications (“Nuance”), which is a Microsoft-owned software company based in Burlington, Massachusetts. While WVU Medicine’s notice doesn’t explain how the breach occurred, Nuance recently submitted its own data breach notice based on an incident involving a vulnerability in the MOVEit file-transfer application. While it cannot be confirmed the two incidents are related, it appears that they are. The Nuance data breach affected certain WVU Medicine patients who received radiology services. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, date of service, and reason and description of service. On September 26, 2023, West Virginia University Health System sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
