August 5 – The Prudential Insurance Company data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information, LLC. The Prudential Insurance Company data breach resulted in the names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, and phone numbers of certain individuals being compromised. It is believed to have impacted as many as 320,000 individuals.
According to the Attorney General of Maine, Prudential Insurance Company reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefit Information, LLC. Prudential relies on the services of Pension Benefit Information. PBI provides regulatory compliance and operational support services for Prudential. PBI uses the MOVEit file transfer service, which was developed by Progress Software. On approximately May 31, 2023, Progress Software announced a vulnerability in MOVEit that had been exploited by an unauthorized third party. This allowed the unauthorized party to access the MOVEit server belonging to PBI. And, because Prudential had provided PBI with confidential information belonging to Prudential customers, this data was subject to unauthorized access. Pension Benefit Information sent out data breach letters on behalf of Prudential Insurance Company to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
