According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights, the Egyptian Health Department data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On December 21, 2023, the company learned that it was the target of a cyberattack. EHD secured its systems and launched an investigation that confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access certain files on its network that contained confidential patient information. EHD also concluded that employee information was affected. On February 20, 2024, the Egyptian Health Department sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
The Egyptian Health Department is a public health department based in Eldorado, Illinois that provides mental health, substance 
abuse prevention and recovery, environmental health, and health education services to residents of Saline County, Gallatin County, White County, and Wayne County. In 2019, EHD provided over 53,000 services to children and adults.
