August 2 – The Northwestern Mutual data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Sovos Compliance, LLC. The Northwestern Mutual data breach resulted in the sensitive information of certain individuals being compromised.
According to the Attorney General of California, Northwestern Mutual reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Sovos Compliance, LLC. Northwestern Mutual relies on certain services provided by Sovos Compliance which require the company to provide Sovos with confidential information pertaining to some of its customers.
Sovos uses the MOVEit file transfer application, created by Progress Software. On May 31, 2023, Progress Software announced that MOVEit contained a previously unknown vulnerability that allowed hackers to access MOVEit servers, including Sovos’. Sovos took MOVEit offline and launched an investigation and confirmed that an unauthorized actor was able to access its MOVEit server and download a file containing confidential Northwestern Mutual customer data On July 22, 2023, Sovos Compliance sent out data breach letters on behalf of Northwestern Mutual to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
