According to the Attorney General of Montana, the Citizens Property Insurance data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On January 6, 2024, the company learned that it was targeted two days prior, on January 4, 2024. Citizens secured its network and launched an investigation that confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access the company’s IT network between January 4, 2024 and January 6, 2024. This includes files containing confidential consumer information. On April 17, 2024, Citizens Property Insurance sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
