According to the Attorney General of Maine, the Educational Computer Systems data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. The company detected an unusually high volume of login attempts on its online services which allowed students to access their tax forms. This prompted ECSI to disconnect its systems and launch an investigation. It was confirmed that an unauthorized party was able to access data belonging to certain students between October 29, 2023, and February 12, 2024. On April 19, 2024, Educational Computer Systems sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
