January 9 – The data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the First American Financial data breach that was reported after the company was targeted in a recent cyber security attack. What Happened?

According to a website notice posted on their website, the First American Financial data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On December 21, 2023, the company first detected a possible data security incident prompting them to take its systems offline and launch an investigation. By December 28, 2023, First American was able to begin restoring certain systems, and by January 8, 2024, all systems had been restored. In a December 29, 2023 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, First American Financial explained that “the Company believes the perpetrator of the activity accessed certain Company systems, exfiltrated data and encrypted data on certain non-production systems.” If First American Financial is able to confirm that sensitive consumer information was compromised then they will be required to send out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
