According to the Attorney General of Montana, the HBL CPAs data breach was reported after they were targeted in a recent cyber security attack. On November 30, 2023, the company detected unusual activity within its computer network prompting HBL to secure its systems, and launch an investigation. It was confirmed that an unauthorized actor accessed its systems on November 30, 2023, including files containing confidential consumer information. On April 16, 2024, HBL CPAs sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
