On January 17, 2024, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix noticed suspicious activity on its computer network and immediately strengthened its security measures. With the assistance of cybersecurity experts, it determined that an unauthorized party accessed parts of the network, compromising sensitive data. This compromise went beyond parishioners and included participant details from Diocese-sponsored benefits programs. After a thorough review, the Diocese confirmed that personal details such as names, addresses, birth dates, and Social Security numbers were involved. On April 15, 2024, the Diocese of Phoenix sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
The Diocese of Phoenix of Phoenix was founded in 1969 in Phoenix, Arizona. It currently serves a community of over one million Catholics. The organization runs 29 elementary schools, 29 
preschools, seven high schools, and 94 parishes, with a staff of more than 2,540 people generating approximately $266 million each year in revenue.
