Dear [Consumer],

We write to provide notification of a recent data breach. By providing this notice, Laborers International Union of North America Local 1098 (“LIUNA Local 1098”), located at 345 E. Morley Drive, Saginaw, MI 48601, does not waive any rights or defenses under Maine law, including the data breach notification statute.

On April 27, 2022, LIUNA Local 1098 discovered unusual activity in an employee’s email account. LIUNA Local 1098 immediately began an investigation, which included working with third-party specialists to determine the nature and scope of the activity. The investigation determined there was unauthorized access to the email account between February 27, 2022 and April 27, 2022. While LIUNA Local 1098 has no reason to believe any information was misused as a result of this incident, the investigation could not rule out access to certain information contained in the account. Therefore, in an abundance of caution, LIUNA Local 1098 reviewed the account to determine the type of information contained therein and to whom the information related. On July 5, 2022, LIUNA Local 1098 completed its review and began confirming address information for potentially impacted individuals.

On July 26, 2022, LIUNA Local 1098 provided written notice to individuals, which included approximately six Maine residents. The information potentially impacted for these residents included first and last name and Social Security number. A copy of the notice, which includes access to complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services for 12 months is attached as Exhibit A. Additionally, in response to this incident, LIUNA Local 1098 changed email account passwords, implemented multi-factor authentication for account access, and reviewed its policies and procedures.
