Data Breach AlertJuly 15, 2022 – Southern Environmental Inc. reported a data breach after the company was targeted in a recent cybersecurity attack. As a result of the breach, the name, Social Security number, and financial account information of certain individuals was compromised. The number of individuals affected by the Southern Environmental data breach has not yet been reported. On July 8, 2022, Southern Environmental sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.

Southern Environmental Inc., an operating company of SEI-Group Holdings, LLC (collectively “SEI”), writes to notify you of an incident that may affect the privacy of some of your information. Although we have no evidence of any identity theft or fraud occurring as a result of this incident, this letter provides details of the incident, our response, and resources available to you to help protect your information from possible misuse, should you feel it is appropriate to do so.

What Happened?

On April 16, 2022, SEI became aware of suspicious activity on its computer network. After securing our network, SEI immediately launched an investigation, with the assistance of third-party forensic specialists, to determine the nature and scope of the incident. The investigation determined that an unauthorized actor may have had access to certain systems that contained information belonging to current and former employees between March 24, 2022 and April 16, 2022. Although we have no evidence of any identity theft or fraud in connection with this incident, SEI is notifying its current and former employees whose information was accessible within the files and potentially subject to unauthorized access.

What Information Was Involved?

Our investigation determined the following types of information may have been impacted by this incident: your name, Social Security number, and financial account information. At this time, we have no indication that your information was subject to actual or attempted misuse as a result of this incident.

What We Are Doing.

The privacy and security of information in our possession is one of our highest priorities. Upon learning of this incident, we immediately launched an investigation to determine the scope of the incident. Although we are unable to confirm if your information was subject to unauthorized access, as an added precaution, we are offering you access to 24 months of credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services through Experian at no cost to you. We encourage you to enroll in these services, as we are not able to act on your behalf to enroll you. What You Can Do.

We encourage you to remain vigilant against incidents of identity theft and fraud by reviewing your account statements and monitoring your free credit reports for suspicious activity and to detect errors.
