August 5 – The Lumico Life Insurance Company data breach lawyers at Console & Associates, P.C are investigating the data breach that was reported after the company was affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefits Information, LLC. The Lumico Life Insurance Company data breach resulted in the name, Social Security number, gender, date of birth, address, and policy numbers of certain individuals being compromised.
According to the Attorney General of California, Lumico Life Insurance Company reported a data breach after they were affected by a recent third party cyber security attack at Pension Benefits Information, LLC. Lumico provides one of its vendors, NTT Data Services, with policyholder data that it shares with PBI to perform regulatory compliance and operational support services for the benefit of Lumico’s policies. PBI uses the MOVEit file transfer program that on May 31, 2023, the developer of MOVEit announced a previously unknown vulnerability within the program that allowed unauthorized parties to access companies’ MOVEit servers, including PBIs.
Upon learning of the MOVEit vulnerability, NTT Data Services passed the affected files on to Lumico. Lumico conducted an investigation and confirmed that some confidential information related to certain policyholders was among the leaked information. On August 1, 2023, Lumico Life Insurance Company sent out data breach letters to those individuals whose information was affected by the breach.
